‘Noches Sueños’ blends Danay Suarez's dream-like, jazz vocal with Mala's South London sonics. Brooding spaciousness and shuddering sub-low frequencies complement Suarez's vocal alongside delicate synths, swelling chords and lurching, mutated Cuban brass.
Mala’s totemic stature in 21st century underground music is difficult to overstate. Mala's groundbreaking approach to sound has inspired a generation of young producers, but he has always remained enigmatic, operating at his own pace and on his own terms. Whilst in Havana recording the Mala in Cuba record he struck upon a potent musical relationship with vocalist Danay Suarez – a star born out of the Havana Cultura movement who has previously worked with Cuban heavyweights X Alfonso, Los Aldeanos and Roberto Fonseca.
The release features remix and dub versions from don producer Zed Bias AKA Maddslinky – a true legend of UK bass culture. His rework sees Suarez's dreamy, lucid vocal float over a typically rugged tribal house riddim.
